Score 95-97/100 · Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Dec 2017

Because this wine spends over two years in barrel, the 2015 Abel 1833 is a barrel sample. It is a blend of 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 25% Petit Verdot and 11% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with a beguiling black cherry, warm blackberry and black currant nose with hints of Indian spices, violets, lavender and eucalypt plus a touch of espresso. Full-bodied, concentrated and generously fruited in the mouth, it delivers beautifully plush tannins and just enough freshness to support the exuberant berry layers, finishing long and perfumed.
