Tasting notes
The proprietary 1997 Cabreo Il Borgo (an 8,000 case blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 16 months in new French oak) displays the vintage's voluptuous style. A single-vineyard offering first produced in 1982, the high-altitude vineyard results in an elegant personality. The vintage's richness is well-displayed in this silky, low acid, intense, medium to full-bodied 1997 with copious quantities of red and black fruits infused with abundant quantities of smoky new oak. It can be drunk now, or cellared for a decade. Importer: Schieffelin & Somerset, New York, NY; tel. (212) 251-8337

Dark ruby-garnet. Open aromas of plum and cassis, with a rather excessive herbaceous element. Fairly sizable and long, with good balancing acids and tannins, but a pronounced greenness detracts from the wine's overall impression of sweetness.
