Tasting notes
The 1999 La Ricolma is dark and quite brooding in the glass. Black cherry, graphite, game, smoke, tobacco and licorice all run through a decidedly concentrated, virile Ricolma that is mature. Burly tannins add to an impression of rusticity. The 1999 is starting to oxidize, so any remaining bottles need to be finished soon.

The opaque ruby/purple-colored, 100% Merlot 1999 La Ricolma possesses aromas of fresh espresso, licorice, black cherry jam, cough syrup, and a hint of green pepper. Dense and chewy, with a sweet palate and considerable elegance, it is a singular expression of Merlot that is completely different than any other tasted in Tuscany. It should drink well for 10-15 years. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300; Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel.
