Fisher's 2009 Cabernet Franc Wedding Vineyard, also from Sonoma, is totally intriguing. A powerful reticent wine, the 2009 shows just hints of its overall potential today. At the same time, it is impossible to miss the wine's pure power, depth and structure. A wine for the patient, the 2009 should be cellared for at least a few years as the flavors are still quite primary and the tannins remain unsettled. The 2009 is shaping up to be a stunner.

(includes 22% cabernet franc): Inky purple. Aromas of candied cherry, cassis, tobacco and licorice, with suave floral and mineral qualities gaining power with air. Fleshy and expansive, with a peppery, spicy quality lifting the sweet dark fruit preserve flavors. Dusty tannins arrive late and linger on the very long, sappy, penetrating finish. This wine's blend of depth, structure and sweetness bodes well for cellaring.

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Wedding Vineyard is a beautifully balanced wine. All of the elements come together gracefully in the glass. Plums, blackberries, mint, violet and spices are all woven together on the well-articulated finish. The integration of fruit, structure and oak is terrific. In 2009 the Wedding Vineyard Cabernet includes 22% Cabernet Franc.

The estate is owned by Fred and Juelle Fisher, while their children Whitney, Robert and Cameron all run various parts of the operation. Whitney Fisher heads up winemaking, while Aaron Pott is the consulting winemaker. Over the last few years Fisher has moved to a longer barrel-aging regime for the Chardonnays of 16-17 months, rather than 11 months, which used to be the norm. The malos are often partially blocked and the wines are now aged with no SO2 until bottling. There are three Cabernets from estate-owned vineyards; the Lamb and Coach Insignia vineyards are in Napa Valley, while the Wedding Vineyard is in Sonoma. The Wedding Cabernet Sauvignon typically includes a portion of Cabernet Franc. Tel. (707) 539-7511
