100% Sangiovese from older vineyards with low yields. 18 months in barriques. Bottled June 1999. Mid garnet with a ruby rim. Nicely integrated, very mature nose. Tang of Sangiovese on the finish and a really rather beautiful wine. Fresh and long. Super-digestible. But apparently there is some bottle variation. (JR)

This all-Sangiovese wine is expensive, but it is awfully good. This is what Chianti Classico should be: full, deep, silky yet with the flavours of the earth and Sangiovese way in ascendant over those of oak, despite having been aged in barrique for 18 months. (JR)
