Tasting notes
Beringer produces three Chardonnay cuvees. The 1995 Chardonnay Private Reserve takes the intensity of Chardonnay to the maximum. The 1995, coming on the heels of a succession of wonderful wines produced under this label, is a 100% malolactic Chardonnay that is aged in 85% new French oak casks for 9 months. Although 10,000 cases are made, the entire production seems to disappear from the marketplace within 24 hours of its release - an amazing testament to the wine's quality and popularity. While it does not pretend to be a French white Burgundy, it offers a big, smoky, hazelnut, buttery bouquet, gorgeous up-front flavors, superb concentration, and admirable glycerin and extract. This is a meaty, mouthfilling, lush, and lusty Chardonnay to drink during its first 1-2 years of life. (release date, 1/97) This exceptionally well-run winery continues its impressive display of high quality wines in all price ranges and varietal categories. Tel. (707) 963-7115; Fax (707) 963-1735
