Tasting notes
The 2007 Gigondas possesses copious amounts of roasted herb, lavender, black currant and crushed rock notes in its medium to full-bodied, fleshy, up-front, forward style. It can be enjoyed now or cellared for another 10-15 years. With the exception of Guigal's Cotes du Rhones, his wines are always released much later than most producers-. One of these days, we will learn that he has purchased an estate in Chateauneuf du Pape, as he and his father (now deceased) have long considered the three greatest appellations in the Rhone Valley to be Cote Rotie, Hermitage and Chateauneuf du Pape. The 2007 Gigondas and 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape represent the current offerings, as the 2009s and 2010s are still several years away from the marketplace. Earthy and compact, with an almost un 2007 bouquet of dark blackberry, ground pepper, garrigue, meat, and licorice, as well as huge minerality and wet stone, Guigal’s 2007 Gigondas is medium to full bodied, beautifully structured, poised, and focused on the palate. Fleshing out notably with air, this age-worthy red should be at its best in 5 to 7 years, and drink well for 15+ years.
Ruby-red. Musky, complex aromas of raspberry preserves, smoked meat, rose oil and smoky herbs. Dense and fleshy, offering fully ripe red fruit flavors and an exotic note of candied flowers. Quite dense, in the style of the vintage, with ripe red fruit clinging on the finish.
