I am tempted to say this wine is too obviously commercial, but it is still and attractive soft, round, medium to dark ruby-colored claret with herb, black cherry, and currant fruit notes. Lush, with some elegance, medium body, soft tannin, and an easy-going finish, this wine should be drunk during its first 7-8 years of life.

Good red-ruby color. Aromatic, slighly medicinal aromas of black cherry and herbs. Supple on entry, then rather closed and sullen in the mouth; lacks real ripeness and personality. The tannins seem a bit finer than those of the '96 but still stand out today.
About the producer
The Cazes family – owners of Lynch-Bages – added this Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois estate to their portfolio in 1940, just one year after they purchased Lynch-Bages. The property comprises 32 hectares of vines in the north of the appellation, close to the village of Pez.
