Tasting notes
The 2017 Chianti Classico Berardenga is a fine and precise wine that shows some of the warmth, good cheer and exuberance of the vintage, but that ultimately proves to be better contained and more carefully etched than I would have anticipated. The bouquet starts off with black fruit and light shadings of spice, but the best part is in those mineral aromas of flint and slate. Serve it with stuffed red peppers. Some 280,000 bottles were made.

The 2017 Chianti Classico Berardenga is an absolutely gorgeous wine. Racy, powerful and sumptuous in the glass, the 2017 offers terrific depth and textural resonance. Sweet black cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and spice bring out the darker side of Sangiovese. Bold and racy, the 2017 will drink beautifully right out of the gate.
A very fresh 2017 with plenty of tight and linear tannins that give the wine energy and drive. Medium to full body. Racy finish. This is impressive. Fantastic texture and complexity on the palate with purple fruit and wet earth. Drink or hold.
Castelnuovo Berardenga. 100% Sangiovese. Mid ruby. Inviting cherry and iron nose with a hint of liquorice. Supple cherry palate with plenty of coating tannins. Succulent and suave. (WS)
