Tasting notes
The 2016 Mekerra Proprietary White from Melka is all Sauvignon Blanc that was barrel fermented and aged in 60% new oak. It reminds me of a top Bordeaux Blanc and has serious notes of lemon curd, white flowers, and lime zest. With beautiful acidity, notable purity of fruit, and a rich, textured style, it’s a white for the dinner table. It should also age for upwards of a decade or more.

The 2016 Proprietary White Mekerra, 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Knights Valley, is classy, polished and nuanced. Lemon peel, mint, almond and floral notes are nicely delineated. In 2016, the fruit was picked a bit earlier than normal, and that comes through in the wine's energetic feel, but there is certainly plenty of textural depth and resonance as well.
Made up of 100% Sauvignon Blanc aged for 20 months in 225- and 264-liter French oak barrels (60% new), the 2016 Mekerra Proprietary White gives gorgeous notions of white peaches, passion fruit and fresh pears with hints of baking bread, honeysuckle, toasted almonds and aniseed. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a rich, lovely oiliness to the texture and layers of stone fruit and tropical flavors, finishing long and spicy. 250 cases produced.
