Tasting notes
Starting with the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon TERES, this brilliant Cabernet saw a long 30- to 40-day maceration and was brought up in 70% new French oak. It has a huge perfume of blueberries and flowers, with an almost garrigue and dried herb quality coming through with time in the glass. Just about perfect on the palate, with a layered, full-bodied mouthfeel, impeccable balance, and ultra-fine tannins, this rock star of a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon shows the sexy style of the 2015 vintage while staying balanced and elegant. It will keep for 2+ decades. Assisted by winemaker Philippe Melka, this estate is gradually moving to all estate fruit. As I hope the notes show, this estate knocked it out of the park in 2016.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Teres is dark, sensual and inviting. Bright acids give the dark red cherry and plum flavors liveliness and energy. Bold and explosive in the glass, the 2015 packs a real punch. Further time in bottle should help the tannins soften a bit, but the Teres is likely to remain quite extroverted.
Blended of the Estate fruit (Howell Mountain), Oakville and Rutherford, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Teres sports a deep garnet-purple color and an intense nose of crushed blackcurrants, black berries and garrigue with hints of bouquet garni, tilled soil, iron ore and moss-covered bark. Medium to full-bodied, the savory/earthy muscular fruit is firmly structured with grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing on a minerally note. 1,150 cases were made.
