The 1990 Doisy-Daëne has a very generous bouquet as you would expect from a precocious vintage, with orange pith, apricot and quince aromas, perhaps having lost a little complexity in recent years. The palate is well balanced with a touch of bitterness on the entry, disappearing towards the mid-palate, yet very tangy with Seville orange marmalade, quince and almost peppers notes towards the finish. More like an 1988 in some ways. À point . Tasted at the vertical at Doisy-Daëne.

The 1990 regular cuvee is revealing far more complexity and richness than it did in the past. It is a bold, opulent, exquisite example of Barsac, with more richness and intensity than I have encountered in previous vintages of Doisy-Daene. Light to medium gold-colored, with a honeyed, botrytised nose, huge amounts of alcohol and power, and a heady finish, the wine possesses just enough acidity to balance out its bold flavors and forcefulness. Straw-yellow color. Smoked meat, tobacco and mint on the nose; note of duck rillettes Moderately viscous and quite intensely flavored; atypically powerful for this wine. Spicy, resiny and oaky in the mouth. Finishes very long, with a slightly phenolic quality.
About the producer
This Second Growth estate has origins dating back to the late 1800s. It is, however, under the ownership of the Dubourdieu family – who took over the Barsac property in 1924 – that Ch. Doisy-Daëne truly flourished.
