Tasting notes
(85% cabernet sauvignon, 10% cabernet franc and 5% merlot; 14.8% alcohol): Bright, medium ruby-red. Black raspberry on the nose, complemented by sexy oak tones of coffee, mocha and chocolate. Boasts terrific sweetness and delineation to its flavors of plum, redcurrant and mocha. A bit less pliant and forthcoming today than the To Kalon wines, finishing with serious, noble tannins, superb length and captivating perfume.

In a lineup of fabulous Cabernets, 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Era is a bit hard to understand, as it doesn't really stand out in any meaningful way. There is plenty of fruit and oak in the glass, but the tannins are angular and there is much less site specificity than readers will find in the very best Alpha Omega wines. The 2010 is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot.

The 2010 is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted from Alpha Omega this year. The estate’s Cabernets are rich and full-bodied, yet also express plenty of site-specific character. Tel. (707) 302-1124
