Earthy and complex. Less overt fruit than their Bourgeots. Finishes with a fine and smooth persistence. (RH)

The 2014 Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru les Vergelesses has a very limestone-infused bouquet with briary and blackberry leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little rough around the edges at the moment, but with a very appealing marine influence on the finish. This is one of the more cerebral offerings from the domaine this year and it will deserve a couple of years in bottle.
