Deep gold and very, very rich. The acidity is pretty low but it’s not dead and, married with the right food, could give a great deal of pleasure. Positively throbs with flavour. (JR)

The finest Condrieu I’ve ever tasted is unquestionably the 2010 Condrieu la Doriane. Possessing over the top richness and depth, as well as phenomenal purity and elegance, it offers to-die-for notes of white flowers, apricots, liquid rocks, caramelized citrus and toasted bread. Full-bodied, layered, multi-dimensional and with blockbuster length, Viognier just doesn’t get any better.

Representing the essence of Viognier and as grand an example of this variety as I’ve had, the 2010 E. Guigal Condrieu La Doriane is thrilling stuff that boasts brilliantly pure aromas of white peach, lychee, and apricot styled fruits that are interwoven with notions of white flowers, liquid mineral, and hints of herbs. Powerful, intense, and yet still incredibly light and elegant, this full-bodied Condrieu has lively acidity, a rich, full texture, and fantastic length. Given the acidity, balance, and concentration here, I have no doubt it will continue to shine for 5 or more years, however, it’s a monumental drink right now, and I see no reason to hold off.

Pale gold. An explosively perfumed bouquet evokes tangerine, pear skin, honeysuckle and iodine, with a smoky overtone. Stains the palate with intense orchard fruit and floral flavors given spine and lift by juicy acidity. Closes with serious grip and excellent length, leaving mineral and citrus fruit notes behind.
