Seven acres on the slopes of Lake Hennessey, in the eastern hills of Rutherford, at elevation of 348-522 feet on old sedimentary soils with compressed clay. Dark crimson. Very perfumed and rather ethereal nose. Then cocoa powder on palate entry. Quite muscular with chew on the end. Slightly stringy, angular finish. Does seem overpriced to me but it’s not hot or alcoholic. (JR)

The 2014 Melbury is bright, perfumed and wonderfully lifted in the glass. Soft, silky tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal. Medium in body and gracious, the 2014 is absolutely exquisite today. Sweet red cherry, plum, rose petal and mint grace the supple finish. This is a super-refined wine from BOND.

The 2014 Melbury comes from a site just north of Lake Hennessey that consists of unique, oceanic and clay soils. It’s a pretty, perfumed, seamless beauty offering loads of black cherry and cassis fruit, hints of chocolate and earth, medium to full-bodied richness, no hard edges, and beautiful tannin. Drink it over the coming 15-20 years.

A fabulous start to this tasting, the 2014 Melbury is simply gorgeous. Dark, aromatic and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2014 exudes freshness and finesse from the very first taste. Gentle, silky tannins give the wine much of its near-term appeal, but the 2014 will be even better with a few more years in bottle. The 2014's aromatic intensity and finesse are truly remarkable today.
