Saturated medium ruby. More Hermitage than Côte-Rôtie on the extraordinary nose, conveying an impression of granitic minerality to its scents of crushed blackberry, blueberry, violet, licorice and charcuterie . Delivers an uncommon combination of density, energy and definition, not to mention a deeply spicy quality and more obvious iron-like minerality and gaminess than the 2011 version. Still a baby, this remarkable, tightly wound Syrah boasts a slowly mounting, palate-staining finish and perfectly buffered tannins. Exceptional--and built for a long life in bottle.

Another top Syrah from here with black pepper and bacon character with light cedar and spice. Full body, with a core of ripe fruit and a long finish. Drink or hold.
