2000 Erdener Pralat Auslese

The tangerine and sassafras aromas here are very site-typical, but in the mouth this is leaner and brighter than one expects. That is a good thing, since there is a huge amount of residual sugar and the obvious acidity and extract help to buffer it. A sense of creaminess and a honeyed note to the fruit become evident in the mouth but do not detract from the unusually bright, refreshing character for Pralat Auslese. The long finish is like a cinnamon- and sassafras-tinged creamsicle along with a refreshing, tangy lemon sorbet. 1 star.
