Deep crimson. Fruit is the dominant flavour here (in contrast to the Apsley Gorge 2008 tasted immediately beforehand). Juicy and lively but a little superficial. Well balanced and pretty but without great complexity. The oak hovers in the background. (JR)

A little darker than the 2008. More fragrant as well as more savoury. Oak spice a little more evident than on the 2008 though still subtle. So fresh and lively on the palate. Juicy red fruit but not at all bumptious. Silky though rich and long. (JH)

Sweet bonbon nose. At the moment this is a bit simple aromatically. I tasted it in May 2009 soon after bottling when it was a bit more like fruit juice than wine, thanks to McCallum's strictly reductive winemaking regime. Hint of beetroot. Should settle down on past form.  (JR)
