Tasting notes
(14.5% alcohol): Bright ruby-red. Brooding nose shows an almost port-like quality to its very ripe blackberry and nutty oak aromas. Large-scaled and sweet if still a bit youthfully monolithic, with spice and saline notes currently dominating underlying dark berry flavors. Big, broad wine with very well buffered tannins and a lingering note of sweet oak. I'd still give this another year or two in the cellar.

The blockbuster 2003 Orion is 100% Syrah from Napa’s Rossi Vineyard. It boasts an inky/blue/purple hue as well as a sumptuous perfume of creosote, blueberries, blackberries, graphite, and incense. Superb character and nuance are offered in a full-bodied, powerful, rich yet brilliantly etched style. This beauty should drink well for a decade or more. Tel. (415) 868-1781
