Tasting notes
A Syrah lover's dream bouquet of bacon fat, white pepper, dried black cherries and a dusting of cocoa wafts up from the 2017 Syrah In the Rocks. This is silky-smooth, almost creamy in feel, with ripe red and black fruits offset by a spicy twang, along with a strong mineral undercurrent. Beautifully long and detailed through the finale, this leaves tart blackberry and exotic spice nuances lingering on.

Deep ruby colored with soft purple highlights, the 2017 Syrah In The Rocks opens with a vibrant yet rustic nose of black pepper, dusty plum, currant and blackberry, with hints of olive and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is slightly shy across the mid-palate but is framed by succulent tannins and energetic acidity with a mineral tension that displays the profile of Syrah effortlessly. Showing an elegant and persistent finish, the wine concludes with soft, dusty tones and a black-fruited essence. Drink over the next 10 to 15 years.
More classic Rocks notes of mulled black fruits, pot roast, cured meats, and crushed violets emerge from the 2017 In The Rocks, which is about as seamless, silky, and layered on the palate as they come. Perfectly balanced, with great tannins, it's another killer Syrah from this team. A blend of 94% Syrah and 6% Viognier, aged in 35% new barrels, drink bottles any time over the coming 10-15 years.
A glossy, attractive, bright and polished nose with a creamy floral feel. A touch of cooked fruit and firm tannins on the finish. Quite tough. (AC)
