The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is not quite totally put together, and yet it offers superb depth and persistence. Dark blue/purplish fruit, licorice, spice and lavender are pushed forward. Deep, exuberant and immediate, the Charmes offers all of the open-knit, inviting character that is so typical of this site. The 2/3rds whole clusters are very nicely balanced in the early going.

Quite a smoky nose (from new oak?) but on the palate there are nice ripe cherries and lively acidity. Modest length for a Grand Cru. Drink on release.
