2002 Riesling Steinertal Smaragd

This was the last wine the Alzingers harvested for the vintage. Chalk dust and white pepper in the nose almost make you want to sneeze. On the palate, white peach and mirabelle fruit behind the minerals. Accents of apple skin and brown spices add pungent complexity. Wet stone, chalk dust, fresh peach, pear and apple mingle with citrus suggestions, spice and stone on the long, evocative finish. 2 stars.
