Score 17/20 · Drink 2021-2029, Jancis Robinson MW, Jun 2021
Full screwcapped bottle 1,450 g. I should imagine some markets might not expect such a celebrated wine under screwcap. Spontaneous fermentation, open-topped fermentation and basket-pressed. This from the back label that is, I have to say, much more informative than the pretty bland, 'marketing', supposedly tech, spec. Dark purplish crimson. Composed, well-integrated nose. Very polished tannins with mulberry fruit and a kick of acidity. I'm a tiny bit more aware of oak on this wine than on some other top South Australian Shirazes of similar vintage. But it finishes fresh and appetising, albeit perhaps a little less sophisticated, smooth (and sweet) than the Torbreck Barossa Shirazes. (JR)
