The 2013 Rauzan-Gassies has a light, sandalwood and earthy nose, lacking fruit intensity but clean. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a spicy entry, solid tannin, blocky in the mouth but with satisfactory weight on the finish. It feels conservative, a little dry and short, ephemeral even, although it is not a total write-off by a long chalk. Just pop the cork over the next 4-6 years.

Overcooked fruit on the nose. Odd tomato and sausage character on the nose. Certainly distinctive, but altogether uneasy as a set of flavours, and it's light too. (RH)

Very ripe blackcurrant menthol flavour. Rather too much tannin on the palate, without the body and length to support it. (RH)

The 2013 Rauzan Gassies is laced with sweet tobacco, menthol, licorice, smoke and game. A bit burly today, the Rauzan Gassies has enough depth to drink well over a number of years. The 2013 could surprise if it comes together more fully in barrel. Today, some rough edges remain, but there is no shortage of personality.
