Tasting notes
My favorite wine from Ampeleia this year is the 2011 Ampeleia. Cabernet Franc is blended with Sangiovese and other grapes to produce this rich and eccentric red wine. The bouquet opens to dark fruit, tobacco and pressed berry fruit. There is a distant touch of pungency and some unexpected bitterness in the mouth. You also feel the heat of the 2011 vintage in the plump darkness and general textural richness of the blend.

Bright cherry and dark cherry medley, citrus flowers and sweet pastry. Juicy texture and light tannins. Medium-bodied, balanced, fun and flirtatious. Phenomenally sexy and gorgeous. Stunner from Elisabetta Forardori. Drink now.
Grilled herbs, mocha, smoke, tobacco and black fruits meld together in the 2011 Ampeleia. The heavy presence of Cabernet Franc (60%) is felt in the wine's aromatic profile and weight. Supple, textured and gracious through to the finish, the 2011 Ampeleia is a winner. The open, racy character of the vintage comes through, but there is plenty of freshness as well. The blend is 60% Cabernet Franc, 25% Sangiovese and 15% assorted other grapes.
