The 2012 Barolo Riserva is a potent, heady wine. Black cherry, plum, leather, spice and menthol are all deeply concentrated. The French oak feels a bit strong, perhaps accentuated by the lighter style of the year. The 2012 is a good wine, but I have to say, this is not my favorite style. Perhaps more importantly, the pedigree of Pianpolvere, one of the great vineyards in Barolo, is not fully expressed.
