Tasting notes
The Kershaw Wines 2019 Elgin Syrah Clonal Selection comes from a cool growing area, as attested by the motto "Elgin, the cooler place to be." Lower average temperatures result in more floral intensity, red and purple fruits and hints of grilled herb or rosemary. This wine is tightly knit, and there is a fine mineral presence that cedes to polished tannins. This is a very enjoyable Syrah with hints of licorice and menthol to close.

Full bottle 1,361 g. A blend of vineyards. Seven puncheons and 12 barriques produced. Smells like cherry and plum pie. Tastes of peppered strawberries. Lots of coarse ground black pepper giving it fantastic lift and elegance and crackling energy. Tastes so young, as if it's just been sprung from the tank. It may well last a great deal longer than I've suggested. Energetic, lithe tannins. Bold and expressive. (TC)
The 2019 Syrah Kershaw Clonal Selection Elgin is matured in just under 50% new oak. The nose was quite reduced when I tasted it, making it difficult to read at present. The palate is much more open and is framed by very fine tannins, layers of blackberry, black olive, white pepper and savoury notes, the finish fanning out wonderful and demonstrating great length. Give this four to five years in bottle. Superb.
