Plenty of honeysuckle, lilac, honey and dried-apple aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, very dense and layered. Tannic texture, too. Flavorful finish. Great structure here. Try after 2022.

(6 barrels produced from one hectare, or about 15 hectoliters per hectare): Pure but discreet nose is a bit youthfully imploded, hinting at lemon. Quite backward and dry; not as harmonious or filled in as the Bressandes Blanc despite its considerably lower yield. Not quite thick but distinctly chewier than the Bressandes, as this wine from tiny yields shows a more important skin component. Still a bit unformed on the back end, but I'm not sure that this wine has the inherent balance to offer pleasure longer than the juicier Bressandes.

The 2016 Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Blanc was impacted by the frost so that it was cropped at just 15 hectoliters per hectare, one-third that of Bressandes Blanc. It has a pretty lime and white peach-scented bouquet with a little more detail than the Bressandes Blanc. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, here a subtle marine influence coming to play toward the finish with a touch of oyster shell on the aftertaste. Fine.

Cask sample. Some creamy oak here to offset the piercing lemon/grapefruit freshness. Just a very slight creamy note bringing harmony to the high acidity. Well balanced on the palate too, with grapefruit zest and pith but a rounded texture. Creamy, almost chewy. (JH)
