The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a tight-lipped bouquet that is missing a little fruit intensity compared to the domaine’s other cuvées. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, taut and linear. The precise, slightly austere finish feels more like a Mazis-Chambertin and could do with a little more flesh.

Rich and layered with lots of subtlety as well as layers. Confident winemaking. (JR)
