Score 91/100 · Drink 2016-2026, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Oct 2014
Dark and purple colored, the 2011 Saumur Champigny La Marginale, which is sourced from a south-facing parcel in Les Poyeux with 40-year-old vines on loamy limestone soils and produced only in great years, reveals a clear, fresh and floral bouquet with dark fruit flavors and a touch of coffee, tea and chocolate. Full-bodied and firmly structured, it is a pure, fresh, silky textured and elegant wine with a nice minerality and a promising structure. Somewhat austere or ascetic at the moment, but the length and animating freshness here is really impressive.
