The 2016 Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse feels just a little pinched on the nose and needs time to unfold in the glass, with blackberry and bilberry fruit, and light violet scents loitering backstage. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, fine depth and grip, more peppery than its peers (as if there might be a splash of Cabernet Franc in the blend), with admirable delineation and focus on the finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2016 Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse floats out of the glass with ethereal scents of crushed black cherries, blackberry preserves, and rose oil, followed by licorice and dusty soil notes. The full-bodied palate explodes with bright, expressive black fruit layers, framed by plush tannins and fantastic tension, finishing very long.
The 2016 Beauséjour-Duffau Lagarrosse has quite a high-toned, precocious bouquet of blueberry, cassis and floral aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry, and quite modern in style, presenting a velvety-smooth sheen and quite grippy tannins. The finish is dense at the moment, and maybe a little charmless, although I suspect it will age with style because the class is here. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
Tasted blind. Spicy dried-fruit nose. Lots of tannins but lots of drive too. Can’t fault this for energy! Ambitious.

Ch. Beauséjour (previously known as Ch. Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse) is one of the finest Premier Grand Cru Classé estates in Saint-Emilion. Situated between Ch. Canon and Ch. Angélus on the limestone plateau, it is one of the best positioned in the appellation.
