The 2012 Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse has much more freshness on the nose than its peers with perfumed black cherries, raspberry and marmalade aromas, the oak neatly integrated. It becomes more floral with aeration, hints of violet emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, a little conservative at first, though I appreciate the acidity here, and there is good grip on the finish. Drinking perfectly now, it should offer another 15 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.

Tasted blind. Bright blueish crimson. Quite a meaty nose. But then drying and over-extracted on the finish. Shame. Sour finish. Fruit not sufficient for the tannins. (JR)

One of the stars in the vintage is the 2012 from Beausejour Duffau which checks in as 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. It sports an inky purple color as well as classic notes of blackberries, blueberries, crushed violets and graphite. This big, rich, concentrated 2012 has shut down slightly since release, yet still offers tons of density and texture. Hide bottles for another 3-4 years and enjoy over the following two decades or more. This is still available in the market and is a no brainer purchase.
