Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Dec 2023
The 2019 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is heavy-handed on the nose. Perhaps the fruit was picked a little tardy, with light prune-like scents and some alcoholic warmth seeping through. The palate is medium-bodied and lower in acidity than the Ruchottes from Château de Marsannay. Quite glossy in style, with tarry black fruit toward the finish, it needs more delineation, but it does meld with time and gain back some of the clarity it was initially missing. Given its showing from barrel, I’d have to conclude that this is a flawed bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
