Tasted blind. Deep ruby colour. Earthy and rubbery on the nose, there is a perception of heat and extraction with fig and leathery dark fruit. This follows on the palate, which is fully earthy, marked by arresting, sandy tannins. Everything feels dry, both structure and fruit, which leaves little joy remaining. Perhaps this will blossom in time? (TP)

The 2017 Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse is powerful and backward, with huge tannins wrapped around a core of black cherry, smoke, charcoal, licorice, blackberry jam and graphite. Exotic and rich in the glass, the 2017 needs time to soften, but it is immensely promising, not to mention utterly captivating. Tasted three times.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) prances out of the glass with energetic notes of crushed black and red plums, black cherries and black raspberries plus wafts of potpourri, oolong tea and lavender. The medium-bodied palate is oh-so-pretty with bags of fragrant fruit and a firm, plush frame, finishing long and perfumed.
