Drink 0-0, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2017

There is some variation with Cappellano’s 2005 Barolo Piè Rupestris. Even our spare bottle is not perfect. But the two best bottles are sweet, vibrant and layered, with great aromatic presence and fine balance.

Drink 2018-2045, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jul 2016

The 2005 Barolo Piè Rupestris - Nebbiolo is a dark, powerful, almost brooding Barolo. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke and licorice give the 2005 a somber feel. At ten years of age, the 2005 remains chewy, tannic and in need of further time in bottle. The 2005 doesn’t have the aromatic lift found in some vintages such as 2004. Instead, it shows the more powerful side of this site.

Cappellano

Serralunga d’Alba’s Cappellano is one of Barolo’s most legendary producers, producing ultra-traditional styles of Nebbiolo. Made famous by Teobaldo and now in the hands of his son Augusto, the estate is best known for its Barolo Piè Franco, a wine from ungrafted vines in the Gabutti Cru.
