Tasting notes
The 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Le Baròncole is a potent, brooding wine. Black cherry, mocha, new leather, spice, lavender, menthol and savory, earthy notes dominate. I would give the 2020 a few years in bottle, as it is quite the powerhouse today. As always, there is a touch of oak here. This is a terrific example of Monti, where the wines are ample in feel and quite tannic.

The 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Le Baròncole (a certified organic wine) shows bright fruit with summer cherry and redcurrant. It offers textural heft and weight. Its Riserva status (with extended aging) is well noted. With time in the glass, it unfolds to leather, potting soil and crushed stone. This vintage does however show a more accessible personality overall (and a powerful 15% alcohol content).
Gaiole. 97% Sangiovese, 3% Canaiolo. Certified organic. Cask sample. Concentrated, youthful ruby. Classy, lifted raspberry and cherry nose with exotic spice. Elegant, supple fruit on the palate, layered with powdery tannins. Very long but the tannins are quite formidable at this stage. Wait. (WS)
The 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Le Baròncole is fabulous. What a wine. The 2020 is easily one of the most impressive Baròncoles I have tasted. I find the purity of the fruit unreal. Rich and textured, with tremendous depth, the 2020 is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. Even in the early going, all the elements are so well put together, something that is especially evident next to the more unruly 2019.
