Tasting notes
A glorious wine with dried berries, dark chocolate and hints of hazelnut character. Full and soft-textured with a long finish. Magnum. Decadent merlot. Delicious now.

A wine of impeccable elegance and grace, the 1999 Rosso Rujno flows across the palate with dried violets, smoke, plums and black cherries. Seductive yet powerful, the 1999 remains youthful, vibrant and totally intense. Sage, rosemary and an array of perfumed, savory herbs add complexity on the authoritative, incisive finish. I imagine the 1999 will still be a spectacular wine in another decade. Readers who want to understand the potential of Collio reds should start here. This is a magnificent showing.
About the producer

Along with the likes of Radikon, Joško Gravner – whose vines straddle the Italian-Slovenian border – is a leading light of the natural-wine movement. His skin-contact Ribolla Gialla has inspired many imitators, while the rare Pignolo is prized by those in the know.
