Tasting notes
Deep violet color. A hugely perfumed bouquet evokes ripe, mineral-accented black and blue fruits, licorice, exotic spices and smoky bacon. Offers deeply concentrated yet lively dark berry, kirsch, star anise and candied violet flavors that show excellent clarity and back-end thrust. The mineral and floral notes drive an impressively long and detailed finish that is given shape by steadily building, well-judged tannins.

The 2019 Cote Rotie La Vialliere starts off deceptively silky and fine, with charming scents of cherries and herbs and a pleasant, medium-bodied mouthfeel, then turns a bit drying and tannic on the finish. Despite its charm, it deserves some time in the cellar and should drink well through 2040.
Highly perfumed, mineral-drenched dark berry, violet, smoky mineral and olive paste scents show excellent clarity and a hint of smokiness. Sweet, palate-staining blackberry and floral pastille flavors deepen with air and show a candied licorice note on the back half. Rich but lively as well, closing with firm cut on a persistent, sharply focused finish, which features fine-grained tannins and suave floral and exotic spice notes.
