Saturated deep red. Perfumed, high-toned aromas of wild berries, rose petal and spicy oak. Dense, lively and pungent, with compellingly sweet raspberry and spice flavors. Explosive finishing notes of red berries and flowers. This seemed borderline-volatile initially but was lively and fresh two days later, without losing its high-toned character.

(from vines in the original clos, planted on rock) Medium-deep red. Knockout nose of roasted cherry, raspberry, mocha and chocolate truffle. Sappy but quite closed, with intriguing floral, mineral, mocha and earth notes. All in reserve today. Finishes very long, subtle and spicy, with a mentholated freshness and terrific grip. Should make a worthy follow-up to the superb 2002. (The 2003 Clos Saint-Denis was very sweet and distinctly wild, but too reduced to judge in November.)
