The 2011 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru clearly sports more fruit on the nose than its peers: blackberry and raspberry coulis, tobacco and undergrowth scents sent to the sidelines. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe tannin. There is satisfying fruit intensity here, the richness countered by its intrinsic salinity that drives the finish home whilst maintaining good delineation. It is not an overtly complex Suchots, but it does give a lot of pleasure. Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011 tasting.

Bright, dark red. Wild aromas of black fruits, licorice, violet, bitter chocolate and Oriental spices, plus a whiff of leather. Dense, suave and firmly built, showing a distinctly sappy quality to the complex flavors of black fruits, spices and minerals. The energetic, very long finish features suave, firm tannins and bright lingering notes of spices and violet. Showing the serious side of 2011, but Pascal Lachaux destemmed everything in this vintage.

Good deep red. Very reduced nose is dominated by a smoky, flinty character. Then dense, sappy and light on its feet, with black raspberry fruit complicated by chocolate truffle and leather nuances. Quite round and generous, finishing with ripe tannins and lingering sweetness.

An exuberantly spicy nose features additional aromas of black cherry, plum and sandalwood. There is a velvety and highly seductive character to the wonderfully rich and generous middle weight flavors that also brim with palate coating dry extract before culminating in a seriously long anise-infused finish. Textbook Suchots. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2019+
