Empty bottle 640 g. A blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Roriz, Tinta Barocca, and Tinta Amarela. Quinta dos Malvedos was acquired in 1890 and the estate still contains large areas of traditional vineyard laid out in terraces. 2012 was the second-driest year in the Douro Valley since 1967 and, as a result, the vines produced some of the lowest yields on record. The grapes were hand-harvested and transferred to granite treading tanks to obtain the must. The grapes underwent a controlled fermentation with extended maceration on skins with multiple pumpovers. Maturation took place in large oak vats and the wine was aged in cask for 18 months. Winemaker Charles Symington. Natural cork. TA 4.3 g/l, pH 3.7, RS 105 g/l. Vegan. Available in up to 200 shops. Really dark blackish purple. Firm and a little simpler than the Vargellas 2015. But it delivers lots of sinewy vintage-port character. Needs a little more time – still a bit too young. (JR)

65% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca, 10% Tinta Amarela. RS 105 g/l. Furry tannins, intense fruit and spirity complexity with floral notes too. Immense power and depth with long persistence. Only just reaching maturity, and with many years ahead of it – right now, this is a compressed fruit-ball. (RH)

65% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Francesca, 10% Trincadeira. 2012 was a classic year. Aged in cask for 18 months. Vegan. RS 105 g/l. Very deep purplish crimson. Peppery and spicy and floral. Just a great, pure vintage-style port that you could serve this Christmas if you decanted it. Great stuff! (JR)
