The 1971 Barolo Monfalletto from Cordero di Montezemolo evidences why this was a great season down in Piedmont. Vivid and disarmingly pure red fruit on the nose, that was undimmed by age, this is a doppelgänger for a fine Côte de Nuits, just a touch of VA gives its origin away perhaps. The palate is beautifully balanced with maraschino cherries, strawberry and minerals. It has retained such energy and precision that you could only stand back and applaud. Bon vin.
