Score 92/100 · Drink 2016-2026, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2014

The 2009 Barbaresco Pajé Vecchie Viti shows the heat of the vintage in its powerful, imposing structure. There is plenty of depth and intensity in the glass, but at the same time, the flavors are also more forward. The Vecchie Viti has a bit more tannin and structure than the straight Pajé, which itself is made from 45 year-old vines! Today, my impression is of a wine on a relatively fast track of evolution, despite its present beauty.

Pure Nebbiolo nose showing some development and the beginning of tar. Lifted acidity streamlines the grainy dried-fruit palate. Seductive fruit while the muscular structure demands more time. (WS)
