Tasting notes
(14.9% alcohol): Bright medium ruby. Rich, inviting aromas of cassis, blackberry, plum, smoke, mocha, truffle and spicecake communicate an almost liqueur-like ripeness. Sweet, plush and dense, with dark berry flavors complicated by more savory suggestions of truffle, earth and graphite minerality. This rather thick, powerful wine remains just this side of warm (the alcohol is 14.9%), but the long finish features fine-grained tannins.

Floral, black currant, blackberry, graphite, and charcoal scents jump from the glass of the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Donn Chappellet. Silky-textured with nicely integrated wood, plenty of creme de cassis, licorice, and spring flower characteristics, this full-bodied, opulent Cabernet is broader and denser than the Merlot, but seamlessly constructed. This beauty should drink handsomely for 15 or more years. Tel. (707) 963-7136 and (800) 4 WINERY; Fax (707) 963-7445
