Vinfolio, Oct 2021

This Premier Cru sits just below Mazis-Chambertin and Clos de Bèze, with Fourrier’s 0.67-hectare plot planted in 1940. In 2020, this is an irresistible wine – full of generous and pure sweet red and dark cherry fruit. It’s so appealing, it verges on glou-glou. But don’t be fooled by this wine’s supple texture and juicy acidity, the mineral, savoury finish tells of its gravitas.

One of the highlights of the range this year is the 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes, a lovely wine that exhibits notes of plums, raspberries, peonies, orange rind and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and charming, with powdery tannins and a saline finish, it's the finest rendition of this site that I can remember tasting chez Fourrier.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Cherbaudes 1er Cru has an almost Morey-like personality on the nose: dark berry fruit, granitic scents, touches of forest floor and wild mushroom. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, clean and crisp, not a powerful Gevrey-Chambertin, but precise and quite pixelated towards the finish. Give this 4-6 years in bottle.
