The 2002 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges 1er Cru has an impressive, well defined, very natural bouquet with wild strawberry mixed with fennel and oregano. This feels well defined and nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin. Masculine, rather earthy in style, there is good weight in the mouth and plenty of freshness on the finish. Very classic, but what else would you expect from this domaine? Tasted at Sarah Marsh MW’s 2002 Red Burgundy tasting.

Monopole. Bright mid red. Light nose with rather noticeable acidity. Puckers the mouth. Really very stodgy. Difficult to see when this is going to become a swan. (JR)

Waxy black cherry aromas can be detected in the nose of the thick, seductive 2002 Nuits-St.-Georges Clos des Porrets St.-Georges. Medium to full-bodied and sensual, it slathers the palate with velvety tar-laced blackberries. This wine has immensely impressive depth, purity, and length. Projected maturity: 2007-2016. Good deep red-ruby color. Pure, discreet aromas of blackberry, violet, bitter chocolate and mint. Juicy, tightly wound and impressively intense, with bright flavors of dark berries, violet and mint. A step up in fruit intensity and length from the foregoing samples. Finishes juicy and persistent, with suave tannins and a pronounced mineral component.
