Gordon & MacPhail is a remarkable independent bottler – rightfully respected for its skill in sniffing out some of Scotland’s finest drams. Its Private Collection bottlings are its most exclusive – whiskies hand-selected by members of the Urquhart family (which has owned the company for four generations). This 1978 Glenlivet was bottled in December 2021. The single Sherry butt – Cask #13553 – was aged for 43 years, developing layers of rich treacle and spice to complement the Speyside icon’s typically fruity profile. Only 362 bottles were made.
