2018 Beaune Bucherottes

Les Boucherottes comes from a tiny, magical plot sandwiched in between Clos des Mouches and Jadot's Clos des Ursules, abutting Pommard. Le Grappin’s plot is superbly situated at the bottom of the mid-slope, with a south-easterly aspect, allowing it to reap the benefits of the early morning sunshine, while cooling down in the afternoon, helping to retain freshness, acidity and avoid any over-ripeness in warmer vintages. The clay soils here are not as deep as they are in Pommard and contain some brown limestone, as a result the tannins are much finer and more elegant. Layers of cherries, blackberries and redcurrant aromas burst from the glass, interspersed with hints of cinnamon, vanilla and smoke. More intense and deeper on the palate than Le Grappin’s Savigny (tasted alongside), with a spectrum of both red and blue fruit flavours. The structure is very fine; silken tannins are seamlessly integrated offering a caressing grip, while a fine bead of acidity adds to the well-balanced and medium-bodied palate. The house style is evident, one of immense purity of fruit, that endures in an exquisitely poised finish.
