Tasting notes
The 2017 Volnay Vendanges Sélectionées is showing well, wafting from the glass with notes of cassis, red berries, raw cocoa and orange rind. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, deep and nicely concentrated, with more depth and dimension than the domaine's regular Volnay, framed by chalkier tannins that will reward bottle age and concluding with a sappy finish.

Barrel sample of final blend. In the middle of the Volnay village area. None made in 2016. This has that fine stalky freshness without stalks. Perfumed with red fruits and again that light savoury spice. Tannins a little more grainy, more depth here and more structure. Should age longer than the straight village wine. Great freshness in both the acidity and the tannins. Mouth-watering length. (JH)
